The current Wem Town Juniors section was re-formed in 2015 when the club began holding training sessions for children of any age to attend. From the humble beginnings of two coaches and six children, interest steadily grew over the first few months and by the start of the 2016/2017 season there was enough interest and attendance to form 3 teams. These teams were entered into the Shropshire Junior League at Under 13, Under 11 & Under 9 age groups.
Despite an indifferent inaugural season, player interest increased, as did parental participation. A training group aimed at the very young players was formed and during the summer of 2017 the teams were adjusted to accommodate Under 8, Under 9 and Under 11 age groups as more parents got involved enabling the club to grow further.
Going into the 2023/2024 season the club now boasts 9 teams representing it in the Shropshire Junior League and continues to hold training sessions for two groups who will feed into the league as they come of age.
Since the formation of the section the intention of Wem Town is to put emphasis on enjoyment first and winning second. The committee continues to uphold these principles and place much more value on participation than results ensuring the children within the club are treated fairly and with respect. The club is proud to be at the heart of the Wem community providing opportunities for the town’s children and for those from the surrounding area to play the game irrespective of ability.
All of our coaches have been trained to at least Level 1 of the FA Coaching Course in line with Football Association guidelines and all club volunteers have undertaken DBS checks to ensure child safety.
The club are receptive to new members of any age, boys and girls (age groups permitting) with coaching sessions held every Saturday morning (with advertised breaks for school holidays) at the Butler Sports Ground, Bowensfield, Wem, SY4 5AP from 9:00am
